Past & Present
Present and Echo: a teamwork guide to the five rooms
Asymmetric co-op means the two characters have different jobs. In Past & Present, Present interacts with physical mechanisms while Echo crosses memory boundaries. Progress comes from changing your partner's route, then letting them return the favor. Both roles are needed at every room's exit.
Ask which character can help the other
A closed gate is often a question for the player on the other side. Look at the role-colored plates and paths, then read the current room message. Amber belongs to Present and blue to Echo, but the useful action may open your partner's route rather than your own.
Agree on three short calls: ‘holding’, ‘crossing’, and ‘safe’. The player on a plate should wait for ‘safe’ before moving away. This avoids removing support halfway through a jump.
Rooms 1–3: learn to hold, time, and trade
The Memory Gate introduces the exchange: Echo reaches a memory plate to let Present through, then Present opens the way for Echo. Reaching the exit first does not finish the room for both players.
The Split Relay adds role-specific platforms that fade on alternating pulses. Watch a full cycle from safe ground. A flicker warns that a solid path is about to disappear; the two colors do not share the same timing.
The Three-Floor Exchange turns the route into a zigzag tower. Some gaps need a partner-held bridge rather than a longer jump. Stop after each crossing, locate the return switch, and check whether the route now continues left or right.
Room 4: prepare before the memory is sealed
The Memory Echo records Echo's actual movement as visible footsteps. While Echo scouts the route, Present should be ready for the replay. Once Echo seals the recording, the footsteps become a temporary path for Present.
Present has nine seconds to reach the amber anchor. Reaching it preserves the path and reveals the next climb. If Echo falls during the unfinished recording, the attempt resets so a fresh trail can be drawn. After the anchor, the room continues with more role exchanges; recording is only its first puzzle.
Room 5: sometimes wait together, sometimes separate
The Shattered Second combines fading paths, gates, and distance rules. In the stay-close sections, rushing ahead can remove both players' support. Choose a shared landing and jump together rather than racing.
Later, the rule reverses: one player holds back while the other creates distance. Read the new objective instead of repeating the previous solution. The finale has four staged fall-recovery points. Reach the safe staging floor before tackling the next span.
Make a retry useful
After a fall, name what changed: the platform faded, the plate was released, the travelers separated, or the jump missed. Then change one action on the next attempt. If the whole view stutters or a character jumps back to an older position, use the performance guide before blaming the puzzle.
The current demo ends after five rooms. More rooms are planned, with no announced release date. The solo game's rewind ability is separate from this co-op campaign.
Common questions
Can either character solve the campaign alone?
Neither role can replace the other. One person can control both local characters, but every co-op room still requires both roles and both travelers at the exit.
Does the game change difficulty based on how well we play?
The current room rules are fixed. Coordination, platform timing, and familiarity can make the same room feel very different to different pairs.
Does Restart room keep the current puzzle solved?
Restart resets the room attempt. A normal fall may return a traveler to a section checkpoint; restarting resets the room attempt, so discuss it before selecting it.
